The Truth About Side Hustles

6th of February. Week 3.

This is the week I decided to get out on the road and see if I could find some clothes at the Op-Shops to try and sell for a profit.
The first thing I did was jump on google and check there wasn’t any hidden ones I didn’t know about. And low and behold, turns out there was a Good Sammy’s factor outlet around the corner from my house were you pay by the kilo instead of per item.
This place was incredibly overwhelming, there is just rows of cages full with clothes, you just pick and cage and start sifting through.
After about an hour I had a full basket and went to check out. I spent about $20 and had 8 items, so it worked out to be about $2.50 per item. What a bargain, right?

So I get home, super excited to get all my clothes listed.
I even went out and bought a steamer to make them look better in the photos.
Spent the rest of the afternoon taking photo, measuring, and getting them listed, and guess what happened next?

Absolutely nothing.
As I am writing this, it is the 21st of February and I have only sold 1 piece of clothing from that first haul.
I still sold a pair of shorts and a dress I already owned, a DVD and two books for a total profit of $23.31
This is when I started to doubt myself, maybe I just got lucky in the first few weeks, maybe I can’t make money off eBay. After wallowing in self pity for a while, I decided it was time to do some research (something I should have done before).
Off to YouTube and TikTok I went to see what other people were reselling.
Hours later I had a new plan.
