The Truth About Side Hustles

February Sales Update.

I made a lot of promises to myself in January. I was going to buckle down and really focus on being more consistent. Most importantly, I wanted to get the “vintage” clothing listed that I spent $350 on from a wholesaler. Did I get it all listed? No, of course not. But I will make a whole post about that bulk lot soon.

So how did I do?

Not too bad. I sold one of those vintage barbies for $68 with shipping. The box was in pretty bad shape, but it sold in two weeks, so keep an eye out for these.

Surprisingly, I sold 4 items on Depop. And if you have been around a while, you would know I have not had much luck on there. It was two of the Harley Davidson items from the bulk order. Then two of my old unbranded tops that I really didn’t think anyone would want. I just listed them to keep the algorithm happy, they both sold within 2 weeks.
I also had surgery on the 19th, so I put both eBay and Depop on Vacation Mode.
eBay will still allow people to order while on Vacation mode, Depop does not. I didn’t see much change on eBay, I had one sale and a bunch of offers come through. Over on Depop I got a heap of messages asking when I would be shipping again. I have no proof of this, but it felt like putting my store in vacation mode on Depop helped me get more views.
I am also testing out a new tracking software called Flippedit. It doesn’t integrate with eBay, so it took me a really long time to input all my items, but so far it has some pretty cool features. Hopefully in the future it will integrate and all the info comes in automatically. But it doesn’t actually take that long if you add the items as you list them.

This is the active listings page. My favourite part is that it shows you how long your items have been listed. There is also a page for your death pile, which was really motivating for me. Seeing how much money I had just sitting in a box was eye opening.

So what will I be doing different in March? My plan is to list 5 items every day on both eBay and Depop. I am also going to go through all of my single DVDs and bundling them. I want to move away from sending things untracked. I can charge more for a bundle and work the cost of shipping in. It won’t be a lot of profit, but at this stage, I am just trying to get my sales back up.
As I wrote that I had a sale come through for 3 DVD bundle. I had it listed for $15, took an offer of $13. Total profit, $2.20.
I have another surgery on the 12th of March, the recovery from the last one wasn’t as bad as expected. So I will most likely just change my handling time to 2 days instead of using vacation mode. Hopefully I can get enough items photographed and drafted, so I can take it a bit easy while recovering.
