Me and my partner are pretty lucky with the house we rent.
It has 4 bedrooms and we only use one, so my plan when I first started this journey was to just use the other bedrooms wardrobes to store all my stock.
Well, those got full pretty quickly, and it was also very unorganized.
So off I went to Kmart.
I got two of these under bed storage tubs for my DVDs and video games.
And I got 4 of these storage tubs for my clothing and shoes.
This worked pretty well for a while, but as the stock grew, those tubs also became unorganized and it was taking ages to find which shirt sold in a giant tub of shirts.

I needed a better system, so I jumped on eBay and bought these storage bags a pack of labels and two more tubs.
This is where it gets tedious. I needed to set up a SKU system. SKU is a ‘stock keeping unit’ almost every retail business will have one, it is a great way to track and identify stock. So I grabbed my tubs and my laptop, sat in front of the TV and started. I had to go into every single listing I had on eBay, add the SKU number, put that item in a bag, and add the SKU onto a label and label the bag.
My SKU system is pretty straight forward. Each tub is a different type of clothing, So I started with Tops001 and increased the number for each piece. Then I did the same for dresses, pants, skirts and shorts.
This whole process took me a couple of days.

I don’t have any photos of what my “storage” looked like before, but this is what it looks like now.

it is now all in one room, the same room I use to take all the photos. So now, once the photos are taken, it goes straight into a bag, labelled and into it’s corresponding tub. I’m still not super happy with it, but until I can get some sort of shelving into the room, this will have to do, and it is infinitely better than checking 3 different closets.
If you only take one piece of advice from this blog, start an SKU system the moment you start listing. Don’t wait until you have over 300 items. It doesn’t have to be like mine, it can be as simple as “closet 1 tub 2.” But trust me when I say this will save you a bunch of time and make your life a lot easier.
