The Truth About Side Hustles

My Top eBay Flips: The Best Items I’ve Sold (So Far!)

Since this month is looking like it is going to be pretty average, and I need a pick me up. I thought I would talk about some of my biggest wins and show you guys what items have made me the most profit. Because so far, my actual best profit items are all things I already owned or found cleaning out my dad’s house, to keep things fair, I will only talk about items I found in Op-shops, so you can start looking for them while you’re on the hunt. If you want a separate post on the other items, let me know.

Towards the end of last financial year (that’s June for anyone outside of Australia) on two separate occasions I found an Hermes neck tie.

The Op-shop I frequent has a giant tub of ties and they are 5 for $1 so I only paid .25c for each. They both sold for $50 plus $11 shipping within a couple of days of listing them. I do some times think I under-priced these with how quickly they sold, but a quick sale is a good sale.
I highly recommend checking out the tie section of your local thrift. Altogether I made $83 in profit.

The next item I actually found this month, it is from an Australian company called Barbarella Vintage. It was a beautiful sheer silk Maxi dress.

I took a gamble on this dress, I had never heard of the brand before, but for under $2 I thought I would give it a go. It sold in 5 days for $36 with $10 shipping. That was a very quick and easy $30 profit.

I have talked about hair styling tools a few times on here, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. The VS Sassoon Big Hair Styler 1000.

I have found that hair tools sell a lot better if you have the original box. Even if, like this one it is slightly beaten up. The thrift store I bought this from tests and tags all of their electronics before selling, so I knew it worked and was safe, although I do still test them myself before listing. I purchased this for $10 and it sold within a month for $55 plus $18 in shipping. This worked out to be about $35 in profit.

I actually bought 3 of these manga, all for $2 each as I was planning on selling them as a bundle, but after checking comps I found this one was worth a little more and sold it as a single listing.

This was a gold foil variant cover. It did take a few months to sell, but eventually went for $35 with $11 postage for a cheeky $25 profit. The other two have not gone on to sell yet, so be better than me and check those comps before splurging at the thrift.

Lastly we have Miss Vanellope Von Schweetz from Wreck it Ralph 2.

She only cost me $1 but took a long time to sell, almost 7 months this sat on my shelf. I don’t love selling plush toys as I am limited on space and they are awkward to store. I ended up taking a best offer for $30 with $15 shipping for $24 profit.

If these numbers seem insignificant to some of you, that’s okay, but as a mostly clothing reseller my profit margin is usually $10-$12 per item. Like I said at the beginning though, these are only the items I found out in the wild. My big profit items are all things I have never come across in an Op-shop, but if you’re interested in knowing what they are, I am happy to make another post.
As always, follow along for more updates.
