If you are reading this post, I assume you have at some point googled the phrase “how to make money online” If you somehow ended up here without doing that, let me be the first to tell you that almost every article under that search term will tell you to start a blog. Well luckily for me, I already had an established blog, I started one back in 2018, but never really knew how to monetize it, so I did some research, spent $110 to upgrade my subscription, created a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, BlueSky and Mastodon account to promote said blog, spent $33USD ($50AUD) advertising on Facebook to hopefully get people clicking on the link to my blog.
So after all of that, you must be wondering how I did, how much money did I make?
I’ll break it down for you, this is how many views my blog had in a year

and this is how many ads were “served” during that year

So how much money do you think I made after serving 2565 adverts? Was your guess $0 because if that was your guess you would be correct.

Now I will be the first to admit that maybe I made a bad blog, maybe nobody cares about my thoughts on horror movies, it is a real possibility. But this is the reality of trying to make money from a blog, it is not easy, it’s expensive and it is a lot of work.
