The Truth About Side Hustles

Buying Vintage Clothes: What to Expect

At the end of January, I decided to spend $350 on a vintage wholesale bundle.
I ordered 20 pieces of mixed women’s Carhartt and Dickies and 5 pieces of women’s Harley Davidson clothing.
I had a couple of issues with this bundle.
Out of the 20 Carhartt/Dickies bundle, 15 of them were Dickies, mostly pants and shorts, one jacket and one shirt. One of the pairs of pants were actually a child’s size 18 though, so not women’s. One of the pairs of shorts was also produced in 2023, so definitely not vintage.

Out of the 5 Carhartt pieces, I got a pair of boys size 14 pants. So again not women’s. A shirt, pair of shorts and two super cute Jumpers.
One of them had a stain on the sleeve that wouldn’t come out after using stain remover and washing twice. Which isn’t a huge problem, I have sold stained/ripped/broken clothing before. You just have to sell it at a lower price.

Now onto the Harley Davidson clothing. I actually don’t have any issues with the Harley stuff I was sent. They’re cute, they’re trendy, they however are still not true vintage. Definitely Retro though.
I got most of the Harley and Carhartt pieces listed in February and the Dickies clothing listed in March. So far, only two of the Harley pieces have sold, both on Depop. I wasn’t expecting everything to sell super quick, clothing usually has a 90day+ turn over.

At this stage, I am not going to say, which wholesaler I bought this bundle off. Even though, I am pretty confident only one pair of Dickies pants were actual vintage. As long as they go onto sell and I make some money off it, no harm no foul, I guess.
I will do an update if/when I make my money back.

I went back onto their website whilst writing this and noticed somethings I didn’t see before.
Firstly, they do mention that B grade vintage can have some un-washable marks. and 10% of their bundles may be B grade. So one shirt out of 25 being stained is about right. They also mentioned that they sell youth size XL as they have the same measurements as a women’s small. So that’s on me for not seeing that information before ordering. Nowhere did they mention the fact that some of the clothes are only 2 years old and definitely not vintage.

Once I have made some money back from this bundle, there is another wholesaler that I plan on trying. Hopefully that works out a little better and we can get some actual vintage clothing.
